About Us
SIRFA: Scotland’s Island Research Framework for Archaeology is a four year project which aims to develop and disseminate Regional Research Frameworks for the Western Isles, Shetland and Orkney - within a broader, island-wide archaeological research agenda for Scotland.
The project is guided by the following principles:
The project is guided by the following principles:
- Equitable: Recognise the needs of all stakeholders; Local Authority archaeologists, academic researchers, commercial archaeologists and local communities. Contributors will be fully acknowledged for their input.
- Balanced: Address the research background and priorities of each individual island group as well as the broader region. Acknowledge local variation and shared regional traits with regard to historic environment resources and history of research.
- Accessible: Project outputs will be published on the ScARF website and will be freely available to all. Information will also be published and available for local audiences – where appropriate these resources will be bilingual.
- Efficient: The Research Framework will complement other existing Research Frameworks (regional and national). UHI networking and support infrastructure across the region will ensure cost and time-efficient project delivery.
The project is coordinated by Dr Rebecca Rennell at Lews Castle College UHI, based at the Benbecula Campus in Uist.
In addition to coordinating SIRFA, Rebecca teaches part-time with Lews Castle College and is based at the Benbecula Campus in Uist. Contact: sirfa@uhi.ac.uk |
