The Shetland Symposium
The second SIRFA Symposium will be held in the town of Lerwick, Mainland, Shetland from Friday 20th September to Monday 23rd September 2019.

This symposium is open to all stakeholders of archaeological research in Shetland and the wider Scottish islands. We envisage that stakeholders will include a wider range of individuals and organisations whose work involves archaeological research, as well individuals who engage with the outcomes of research. This will include museums professionals, commercial archaeologists, academic researchers, archaeology students, community heritage groups, independent researchers and local and national government agencies.
The purpose of the symposium is to bring stakeholders together to achieve the following:

- Identify and agree key research gaps
- Identify and agree areas of research potential
- Put forward a consolidated statement of research objectives and development by period and theme

- Learn from other island regions
- And make research links across and between Scotland’s islands
