Session timetable
Workshop sessions
The workshop sessions will employ specific ‘open conferencing’ techniques to encourage delegates to share information, develop ideas and record outcomes. There will be a mix of people at the workshop, some of whom have been working in the Western Isles for many years and others relatively new to the area. Delegates will include academics, commercial archaeologists, museums staff and members of local community groups. In light of this diversity of interests, backgrounds and experience, the purpose of the event is to both assess past work and look to the future, identifying objectives and potentially useful methodologies from other areas.
The workshop sessions will be structured by period and theme.
Workshop themes
Connections and Insularity
Environment and Landscape
Industry and Economy
Workshop period groups
Early prehistory
Later prehistory
Medieval, post-medieval and modern
As part of the sessions, themes and chronology will be discussed, defined and refined. Each workshop has been designated a chair, who will manage the discussion and workshop outcomes. You can find more information about the workshop chairs here.
